I had an afternoon to kill in Hue, a place heavily scarred by the war, so I decided to explore the Citadel, a relic of the Nguyen dynasty. The sun was blisteringly hot so my wander around this amazing walled city was shorter than it could have been, but I still managed to see some beautiful things.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of tourists stampeding on its grounds – for most of the time it was just me alone which made it a really unique experience. When you’re travelling around so much you start to get really sick of being surrounded by tour groups in sightseeing attractions, so it’s refreshing to be alone.
In fact, there were more workers on site than tourists! I was visiting at the hottest point of the day, so all these hard-working Vietnamese guys were napping on the job. I decided to snap them as well as the citadel itself.
