+ Selection of Fave Movie Moments

Sometimes you watch a movie, and right out of nowhere comes a scene that will stay in your mind months and years after you ever watched it. From the top of my head here are some of the best examples of cinematic brilliance!

Shake your head girl / With your ponytail

Flashbacks of a Fool, directed and written by Baillie Walsh, is the kind of film to make those of us not around in the seventies wish we were there. This scene, to me, symbolises the points at which music and a discovery of the adult world meet. The way the character of Ruth Davies, played by Felicity Jones, loses herself in this song makes for a powerful scene. I particularly LOVE the song lyrics to this song, If There Is Something by Roxy Music, and its references to how dancing ‘Takes me right back (when you were young)’.

Happiness only real when shared

Into the Wild is another of my favourite movies, based on a true story about a young graduate who chooses to live a nomadic lifestyle and abandon his family. The final scenes of the movie are particularly sad, but I love the way the film (directed by Sean Penn no less!) interweaves a message of happiness and discovery throughouut.

It’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world

American Beauty in its entirety deserves every ounce of hype that has clung to its since its release TEN YEARS AGO. This scene is narrated from the character’s inner monologue as he approaches death, and sums up how fleeting and precious life is. Yes, it can be depressing to watch but at the same time the ending of this film leaves you feeling peaceful and grateful for beauty, wherever you might find it.
